In vitro + clinical studiesWhat is Argireline?
Argireline (acetyl hexapeptide-3, also sold as Argireline by Lipotec) is a synthetic hexapeptide that reduces wrinkle depth by inhibiting SNARE complex formation at the neuromuscular junction. In plain language: it partially blocks the same nerve to muscle signaling pathway that Botox blocks, but topically instead of by injection, and with a much milder effect. It is one of the most studied cosmetic peptides and appears in hundreds of anti-aging skincare products worldwide. Browse the full peptide library for related compounds.
The honest framing: Argireline works, but it is not Botox. Clinical studies show 10 to 30 percent wrinkle depth reduction after 30 days of topical use at 10 percent concentration. That is real and measurable, but it is not the 80 to 90 percent reduction you get from injectable Botox. Think of it as a maintenance tool between Botox appointments, or as a standalone option for people who want mild anti-aging effects without needles.
Commonly combined with GHK-Cu (collagen stimulation) and SNAP-8 (same mechanism, octapeptide version with potentially deeper penetration). The combination of SNARE inhibition plus collagen stimulation addresses wrinkles from both the muscle contraction angle and the skin structure angle.
In Vietnam, Argireline is available research-grade from regional suppliers. Also found in some imported skincare products at Vietnamese cosmetics shops in District 1 and District 7. Not a pharmacy or hospital product. For verified suppliers, see the supply index. Verify purity via the COA guide. For legal context, see the peptide legality guide.
How It Works
SNARE Complex Inhibition: Blocks the formation of the SNARE protein complex needed for acetylcholine release at the neuromuscular junction, reducing muscle contraction intensity.
Wrinkle Depth Reduction: By reducing muscle micro-contractions, expression lines (forehead, crow's feet, frown lines) become less pronounced over time.
Topical Delivery: Unlike Botox which requires injection, Argireline is applied topically and penetrates the stratum corneum to reach superficial muscle fibers.
Benefits
- Measurable wrinkle depth reduction (10 to 30 percent in clinical studies)
- Non-invasive alternative to Botox for mild anti-aging
- No needles, no downtime, no medical supervision required
- Compatible with most skincare routines
- Synergistic with GHK-Cu and SNAP-8
- Well-tolerated with minimal side effects
Dosing Protocol
| Phase | Dose | Frequency | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Topical serum | 5-10% | 1-2x daily | Ongoing |
| DIY solution | 10% in HA base | 1x daily | 4+ weeks |
Always start at the lowest effective dose and titrate up gradually.
Side Effects
Common
- ⚠Mild skin irritation in sensitive individuals
Rare
- •Contact dermatitis (discontinue if rash develops)
Who Should NOT Use Argireline
- ✕Active skin infections or open wounds on application area
- ✕Known allergy to peptide ingredients
- ✕Pregnancy or breastfeeding (insufficient data)
What to Expect
No visible change yet. Peptide is accumulating in skin tissue.
Subtle softening of fine lines. Most noticeable on forehead and around eyes.
Peak effect. Measurable wrinkle depth reduction if using 10 percent concentration consistently.
Effects are maintained with continued use. They reverse within 2 to 4 weeks of stopping.
Notes from Ho Chi Minh City
Argireline is the topical I run between Botox appointments at the District 1 dermatology clinics where the brand-Allergan onabotulinumtoxinA injection runs roughly 4 to 6 million VND per forehead session. The 10 percent serum applied morning and night maintains roughly 60 to 70 percent of the smoothing effect once Botox starts to fade at month 3, which is the practical use case in HCMC where dermal cosmetics are widely accessible but appointment cadence is the bottleneck. Vietnamese cosmetics shops in An Phu and District 7 stock The Ordinary Argireline Solution at roughly 350k to 450k VND per 30ml bottle, which is the easiest retail entry point. DIY 10 percent in hyaluronic acid base from research-grade powder runs 600k to 1 million VND per 5g batch through cold-chain importers.
Sourcing in Vietnam
Argireline (acetyl hexapeptide-3) is sold over-the-counter as cosmetic products in Vietnam, including The Ordinary Argireline Solution at imported cosmetic retailers in District 1 and District 7 (roughly 350k to 450k VND per 30ml). Research-grade powder for DIY formulations runs 600k to 1 million VND per 5g through cold-chain importers. Not a pharmaceutical product and not stocked at Long Châu, Pharmacity, FV Hospital, or Vinmec pharmacies. See the supplier list and COA guide before purchasing.
FAQ
Q: Is Argireline as good as Botox?
A: No. Argireline produces 10 to 30 percent wrinkle reduction topically. Botox produces 80 to 90 percent reduction by injection. They work on the same pathway but Argireline is much milder. Think of it as a daily maintenance tool, not a replacement for Botox.
Q: Can I use Argireline with retinol?
A: Yes. Argireline is compatible with retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and most active skincare ingredients. Apply Argireline first (water-based), then oil-based actives.
