Hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City for Foreigners (2026 Guide)

Hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City are named on three foreign government lists: the US Embassy's, the UK Foreign Office's, and the Australian consulate's. All three name Cho Ray Hospital, a public hospital, yet they disagree on how much English its staff speak. For an ambulance, the US Embassy list gives 115. No list we read ranks hospitals, and the UK and Australian lists say they endorse none. So this page shows what each list says, line by line, with its date.

Short answer

Which hospitals do official lists name?
The US Embassy list names Cho Ray Hospital, American International Hospital, Vinmec Central Park, City International Hospital (CIH), CMI and Victoria Healthcare, among others. The Australian list gives 24 hour lines for FV Hospital and Hoan My Saigon Hospital.
Which ones does the JCI directory show?
On 13 October 2026, among its city entries: FV Hospital, Vinmec Central Park, American International Hospital and Phuong Nam Hospital under the Hospital Program, and Cao Thang Eye Hospital under the Ambulatory Care Program.
What do you call in an emergency?
115 for an ambulance, says the US Embassy list. It gives 113 for police and 114 for fire.
Will you pay before treatment?
Expect to. Smartraveller says doctors and hospitals in Vietnam expect payment before they treat you, including in an emergency.

Three government lists of Ho Chi Minh City hospitals, side by side

Three foreign governments publish lists that name hospitals in the city. They carry different dates, and the US page carries none. That matters, because entries change.

  • US Embassy and Consulate in Vietnam. The page carries no date. We read it on 13 October 2026.
  • UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The list was last updated on 24 June 2022. Its rows mark whether staff speak English, with entries such as yes or some.
  • Australian Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City (DFAT). The file is dated July 2026 in its name. It marks some numbers as 24 hour lines.

The table below puts the lines we quote from each list next to each other. We did not merge them. Where two lists print a different address, both are shown as printed.

Ho Chi Minh City entries in three government lists, as printed. Built by Peptides Vietnam from the US Embassy list (undated, read 13 October 2026), the UK FCDO list (updated 24 June 2022) and the Australian consulate list (July 2026 file). "No line quoted here" means we did not quote that list for this name. It does not mean the list leaves it out. The UK and Australian lists say they endorse none of their providers.

The lists do not always agree on an address. American International Hospital is one case. The US list gives 199 Nguyen Hoang, Binh Trung Ward. The UK list from 2022 gives No. 6, Bac Nam 3 Street, District 2, with the entrance from 199 Nguyen Hoang. We show both and do not pick one.

Two entries are not hospital beds. The US list names International SOS as the provider in charge of shipment of remains and medical evacuation. The Australian list marks a Family Medical Practice clinic, its District 2 Medical Centre, as open 24/7.

Does Cho Ray Hospital have English speaking staff?

The three lists give three different answers. Cho Ray is a public hospital, and all three lists name it.

  • US Embassy: lists Cho Ray with English speaking on the 10th floor, which is set aside for foreigners.
  • UK FCDO (2022): marks it as public, a major general hospital for Southern Vietnam, where some staff speak English.
  • Australian consulate (July 2026): shows Vietnamese as its only language.

We cannot tell from the lists which line is current. They come from different offices. The UK and Australian lists carry different dates, and the US page carries none.

Which hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City are JCI accredited?

On 13 October 2026, the JCI directory showed FV Hospital, Vinmec Central Park, American International Hospital and Phuong Nam Hospital under its Hospital Program, among other city entries. Joint Commission International (JCI) is an accreditor. Its directory is the record, so we read it there and not on hospital websites.

Some Ho Chi Minh City entries in the JCI directory with the country set to Vietnam, read in a browser on 13 October 2026, with the program and the effective date the directory shows. This is not a full list of the directory's entries for the city. Source: Joint Commission International. Status can change after this date.

Read the program column. Cao Thang Eye Hospital appears under the Ambulatory Care Program, not the Hospital Program. Phuong Nam Hospital is listed with the place "Ho Chi Minh" and an enterprise affiliation to Phuong Chau Healthcare Group.

The directory shows no total, and our table is not complete, so this page makes no claim about any hospital not in it. Accreditation is not a ranking. To check a hospital that is not here, search the JCI directory yourself.

What number do you call for an ambulance in Ho Chi Minh City?

Call 115 for an ambulance. The US Embassy list gives three numbers: 113 for police, 114 for the fire brigade and 115 for an ambulance.

The city has its own 115 Emergency Centre (Trung tâm Cấp cứu 115). The Department of Health says the city set it up by Decision 6792/QĐ-UBND on 18 December 2013, under the Department. The same page sets out its scope as emergency care and moving patients within the country. It does not mention taking patients abroad.

For a direct line to a hospital, the Australian list marks 24 hour numbers, among them these two. It gives FV Hospital's main number, +84 28 3511 3333, as a 24 hour line. It gives Hoan My Saigon Hospital a 24 hour emergency service on (028) 3995 9860.

The Australian list also says DFAT gives no guarantee that its details are current. A number can change after a list is printed.

Paying, insurance and medical evacuation

Expect to pay first. Smartraveller says doctors and hospitals in Vietnam expect payment before they treat you, including in an emergency. It says some hospitals may talk with your travel insurer to secure payment. Others may need payment up front before they start.

The US State Department strongly recommends supplemental insurance that covers medical evacuation. It adds that if you buy it, you must seek the money back from the insurer yourself.

The city's 115 centre describes its work as transport within the country. The US Embassy list names International SOS in Ho Chi Minh City as in charge of shipment of remains and medical evacuation. It does not say to where. For what cover can look like, see our guides to health insurance in Vietnam and travel insurance for Vietnam.

What are hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City like for foreigners?

Two governments describe care with caution. The US Embassy says medical care in Vietnam generally falls below US standards. Smartraveller says foreign private medical clinics are available in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang, and that they may not meet Australian standards.

On English, the US Embassy says many of the international facilities have foreign doctors on staff who speak English. The UK list marks American International Hospital with English speaking staff. Cho Ray, as shown above, gets three different answers.

None of the lists vouches for anyone. The UK FCDO says none of its listed providers are endorsed or recommended. The Australian list says DFAT does not endorse any of the services on it.

How to check a hospital or doctor licence in Ho Chi Minh City

Use the city Department of Health lookup at thongtin.medinet.org.vn. The site is in Vietnamese. It offers three searches.

  • Người hành nghề Y: medical practitioners.
  • Cơ sở khám chữa bệnh: medical facilities, such as hospitals and clinics.
  • Cơ sở thẩm mỹ: cosmetic facilities.

The operating licence results come as a table. Its columns are the facility name, the licence number, the address, the issue date, the status, the facility code and the practising certificate number (CCHN).

In 2017, the Department said it had set up this software so people could quickly look up a facility's licence. It also covers the practising certificates of doctors and health staff. The statement limits this to facilities under the Department's authority.

The lookup also has a cosmetic facility search. Our dental clinic guide for Ho Chi Minh City covers it for dentists, and our IV therapy guide for Ho Chi Minh City covers drip clinics.

How much does a hospital visit cost in Ho Chi Minh City?

We found no official price list for private hospitals in the city, so this page gives no prices. We looked on the Department of Health site and the 115 centre site and found no price list for foreigners.

For public hospitals, our guide to healthcare in Vietnam for foreigners covers the official price ranges, with their date. What the government lists do say about money is the point above: expect to pay before treatment. For medicine bought after a visit, see our pharmacy in Vietnam guide.

What we could and could not confirm

This page was built from written records. We did not visit a hospital. We read each record in October 2026. Here is what we could confirm.

  • The Ho Chi Minh City lines in the US Embassy list, the UK FCDO list of 24 June 2022 and the Australian consulate list of July 2026.
  • The JCI directory entries for the city, read in a browser on 13 October 2026.
  • The 115 Emergency Centre page and the licence lookup of the city Department of Health.
  • The health advice of Smartraveller and the US State Department.

Here is what we could not confirm.

  • Prices at private hospitals. We found no official figure.
  • JCI status for any hospital that was not in the capture we read on 13 October 2026. The directory shows no total count, and a status can change after that date.
  • An official count of hospitals in the city.
  • Ambulance prices or 115 centre numbers other than 115.
  • Whether every phone number and address on the lists is still current. The UK list is from 2022, and the Australian list gives no guarantee of currency.

Hospitals in other cities have their own guides: Hanoi, Da Nang, Hoi An and Phu Quoc.
